What you really need to know about the flu shot

What you really need to know about the flu shot

As many of you know, I have been giving health talks in the community at various schools, businesses and Mommy and Me classes about protecting yourself from the flu using whole food nutrition. With the pressure to vaccinate growing stronger each day, it is important to be educated about the inherent dangers of the flu vaccination and the toxic substances it contains. In the end of the day, we need to be our own advocates, and arming ourselves with education in the face of pressure and hysteria will help us remain healthy and vital through the coming season.

Ingredients in the Flu Shot

Mercury (thimerosal)
One of the most poisonous substances known. Has an affinity for the brain, gut, liver, bone marrow and kidneys. Minute amounts can cause nerve damage. Symptoms of mercury toxicity are similar to those of autism.

Formaldehyde (formalin)
Major component of embalming fluid; poisonous if ingested. Probable carcinogen;suspected gastrointestinal, liver, immune system, nerve, reproductive system and respiratory poison. Linked to leukemia, and brain, colon, sinus, nasopharynx and lymphatic cancers.

Gentamicin Sulfate & Polymyxin b (antibiotics)
Allergic reactions can range from mild to life-threatening.*

Chicken embryos
The flu vaccine is made with fluids from chick embryos inoculated with specific type(s) of influenza virus. People who are allergic to these products (egg or chicken) or to any of the other ingredients in a vaccine can become seriously ill from the vaccination.

Sodium Phosphate
Symptoms may include vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, blood chemistry effects, heart disturbances and central nervous system effects. May cause inflammation and pain on prolonged contact, especially with moist skin.

Produced from selected pieces of calf and cattle skins, demineralized cattle bones and pork skin. Allergic reactions have been reported.*

Polysorbate 80
Known to cause cancer in animals.

Neomycin Sulfate (antibiotic)
Interferes with Vitamin B6 absorption. An error in the uptake of B6 can cause a rare form of epilepsy and mental retardation. Allergic reactions can be mild to life-threatening.*

Monosodium glutamate (msg/glutamate/glutamic acid)
Being studied for mutagenic, teratogenic (developmental malformation and monstrosities) and reproductive effects. A neurotoxin. Allergic reactions can range from mild to severe.*

Sodium Deoxycholate
Promotes tumors and damages DNA.

Octoxynol-10 (triton® x-100)/ octoxynol-9 (polyethylene glycol-p-isooctylphenyl ether; octylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol)
Spermicide (kills sperm). Can cause chills confusion, dizziness, fever, lightheadedness, muscle aches, peeling of the skin. Causes severe eye irritation. Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or in contact with skin. Toxicology not fully investigated. May contain traces of ethylene oxide or dioxane, which are probable human carcinogens.

The Low Down on Energy Drinks

We have had the misfortune of seeing the ill effects of Red Bull first hand in our clinic over the years, and it is refreshing to see parts of the European Union get on board by inacting a ban on the toxic drink.

Below is an excellent excerpt from an article in Natural News regarding the dangers in drinking energy drinks. My suggestion for our patients who want a boost in energy-without a dip in health- is to make a blender of our famous Green Drink (recipe below) and pack it to go in a thermos for a midday energy slump. Its a tried and true formula for vitality and health 🙂

(NaturalNews) It seems energy can be found everywhere these days. Energy in a can, energy in a cup, energy in a bottle. . .Wherever it is, people are looking for it because, well, we seem to be lacking it. Generally speaking, synthetic energy enhancement can have some long term health consequences, one of which is a dependence on whatever substance it is that’s giving you that extra boost. In fact, new research from Wayne State University says that one of the most popular – and easy to find – energy enhancers can pose health risks to people with heart conditions: energy drinks. I’m sure you’ve seen these energy drinks. According to researchers, popular energy drinks like Red Bull cause the heart rate to race at rates dangerous for people with heart conditions like heart disease. Researchers found that within four hours of drinking various energy drinks, the 15 participants’ blood pressure rates and heart rates increased approximately 10 percent for the systolic rate, 8 percent for the diastolic rate and heart rates increased 11 percent. Researchers note that these levels are of little importance for healthy young adults (the average age of participants was 26) but these kinds of levels can be serious for people with heart conditions. One researcher said that these results can be “clinically significant” for those who take medication to treat their heart condition as energy drinks may adversely affect heart medications’ effectiveness. And while these energy drinks are often used when performing activities that require focus, heart rates increased for these participants while sedentary; such as while watching movies. In short, researchers advise anyone who has a heart condition to avoid energy drinks until further research is done. But you really ought to avoid these energy drinks all together. They’re loaded with caffeine, which has been linked to cancer, cardiovascular problems, extreme mood swings and dependence.
